National and international communities of practice (planned for mid 2009)
Both nationally and internationally, there is precious little communication among key actors working
in the field of vulnerable children and families. When there is communication, too frequently it is
on a macro, conceptual level that has little regard for the everyday realities of local organizations
or programs. As a result, there are large numbers of well meaning programs that lack appropriate
responses to children and families affected by violence. Often times, innovation and resources are
needlessly burned up by “reinventing the wheel” as a result of this lack of coordination.
JUCONI, with support of the European Union and in partnership with JUCONI Ecuador and International
Children’s Trust, aim to address this problem. Through creating cross-sector communities of practice,
JUCONI aims to achieve the following goals:
- Replicate good practice.
- provide a space for joint problem solving.
- Improve coordination amongst key actors for improved practice as well as concentrated advocacy
efforts.
- Promote improved public policy that considers longer-term, holistic responses that effectively
address violence rather than short-term, high profile public works.
2009 marks the year in which these communities, both the national and international levels, will be
organized.
